Mahahual - Quintana Roo - Mexico

The small fisherman’s village of Mahahual is located on the Costa Maya coast, about 350 kilometres south of the International Airport of Cancun. Nearby there is a National Airport as well, at Chetumal, approximately 150 kilometres away. Getting to Mahahual from Cancun will take about 4 to 5 hrs. depending of the way of transport you want to use. The two real options are either by car or by public transport.

Renting a car at Cancun airport is easy and can be done at several rental companies (for example Hertz, Avis). You can encounter these at the Arrival of the airport or you can make reservations via your preferred rental company’s web site. Buses to Mahahual leave from the terminal in Cancun city, with the ADO company. For more information on the these bus services please check the ADO bus service.

Driving by car:
The drive from Cancun International Airport to Casa Manglar will take about 4 hrs. The road has been under construction since 2006 and can therefore be somewhat demanding on certain parts. As there is little lighting we do recommend driving during the day. As it becomes dark early in the evening, this means that you want to start driving before 13:00 hrs., otherwise you might want to spend the first night in Playa del Carmen or Tulum. From Cancun you go southbound, in the direction of Chetumal on Highway 307. Passing through the towns of Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Limones you continue on the same highway until a road sign indicates to go left to Mahahual. Just short of 300 kilometres. Continue 50 kilometres more (the are no other options!) until you get to a soldiers checkpoint and go straight ahead towards the Caribbean Sea.
Turn right at the Light house and pass through the little fisherman's village of Mahahual. Another 8 kilometres more and your Casa Manglar is located on you left hand and you have arrived at your destination. A detailed route description is available on request.

Going by bus:
ADO has 2 or 3 times a day a direct connection from the bus terminal in Cancun to the bus terminal in Mahahual. Other possibilities by bus:
Take the Mayab bus to Limones (approx. 3.5 - 4 hours). There, take the Carribe bus to Mahahual (approx. 1.5 hours) or take a taxi down to Mahahual and Casa Manglar. The Carribe bus has no official stops but will stop at your request in front of Casa Manglar.
